make a footie pitch

This all started because I couldn't find footie cake toppers for his football pitch cake, well none that I was willing to pay for. I looked on Ebay and although I could get my hands on games at a reasonable price the shipping would have bankrupted me. Then I had a brain wave!
I bought these little wooden unpainted dolls with completely a different project in mind, you should go and have a look at Wunderkind, she has some really cute dolls in there. Anyway, I counted up the dolls and I had enough for two teams so I broke out the paints. I gave them a couple of layers of acrylic then added the details, the numbers were a nightmare, they are so wonky but the faces weren't that hard to do. Ebi-kun supports our local team, Omiya. So, I got the team sheet out and painted them like the real players, well as far as hair styles and skin tone goes :o). Omiya play in orange and blue. The ball was DIFFICULT to paint, don't look to closely.

Next job was the pitch, I bought a wooden tray for ¥500 and stuck a piece of felt to it (felt was from my favourite felt lady, Sarah. I used fabric paint to paint on the white lines. I also covered the top of a little wooden box I had so he would have somewhere to keep the players. The goal posts are made from bendable wire, I am sure they will get bent out of shape but they are easy to re-bend. The are hooked over the side of the tray to stop them from falling over but they come off and can be stored in the box.

So all he needed was someone to play with, isn't that what daddies are for?

Birthday MTD

We just stayed in yesterday, Ebi-kun wanted to play with all his new toys and I promised to play with him and not get bogged down with work. When I asked him what he wanted for dinner he said, a fancy muffin tin, well it's not that fancy but here we are...

back row : yellow pepper and tomato, mini sausage, yellow pepper and tomato
2nd row from back: broccoli, yellow pepper and tomato, football rice ball*
3rd row from back: football rice ball, football boots mini sausage, broccoli
front row: yellow pepper and tomato, lychee, birthday cake - the last piece.

*I bought nori which is precut so that when you wrap it round the rice ball it looks like a football - pretty cool but over priced so it is just for special treats :o)

The picks were left over from the party.

Happy 4th Birthday Ebi-Kun

It hardly seems like yesterday since you were born,
you were so tiny
but by the time you were one you had bulked out and your cheeky character
was showing through and you were into everything
By two you knew exactly what you wanted and
had no problem on letting us know what it was!
Then you were three and your favourite words were why, how and what, you are interested in anything and everything, and you are cute, smart and funny.
and now you are four (not until 10:10am, you do keep reminding me!) and I wonder what the next year will bring, in which direction will you grow and change?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY baby boy
I know you are four now and not a baby but you will always be my baby xxx

Make A Football Pinata

We made a football pinata last year too but this years turned out a bit better.
You will need:
A large inflatable ball
newspaper
plain white paper
wall paper paste
treats for inside the ball
black marker

Blow up your ball and place it on something to stop it rolling, we used a cardboard box on top of some bin bags. Last year I tried hanging it whilst we covered it but it was more difficult to do.
Rip your newspaper into strips, then soak each one in the newspaper paste. Place the strips all over the ball but leave a space near the valve.

Place an extra couple of layers around the opening to make it stronger, then leave to dry. It had been very wet and humid here this year so it took 3 days to dry out.

Let the air out of the ball and remove it from the shell, place the shell on your head (this step is optional but makes for comedy photos)
Fill the shell with treats, we put in packs of bubbles, sweeties, pencils and balls.
Cover the whole thing with white (computer) paper using wall paper paste again, make sure the hole is well sealed, leave to dry again. Then get your husband or some other poor mug to draw the design on the ball with a marker pen.
Take it to the park and let the kids kick it to bits! What could be more fun?
If you don't want a football try using pretty origami paper for the final layer.

Ebi-kun's 4th Birthday Party

Ebi-kun doesn't actually turn four until tomorrow but we had his party on Sunday at the local park. I was praying the weather would be good and luckily the sun gods smiled on us. Ebi-kun wanted a football theme (soccer) but I wanted to do robots, it was his birthday we we eneded up with footballs.

Last year I made him a three t-shirt so I decided to make a 4 one this year but keeping in with the footie theme (I have blurred his name on the picture but his name is sewn on too)
We got to the park early to bagsie a good space under the trees and used footie bunting to claim it as ours! I just printed out large footballs onto printer paper and cut them out with my Fiskars tool. Punch holes in the top and that was it, easy.
I opted for paper plates and cups this time, we usually take plastic so they can be washed but as a one off we did it the disposable way, to jazz them up we stuck footballs to the cups.
I found some big inflatable footie balls in the ¥100 shop, which we perfect for playing in the wading pool with.
We did it as a potluck picnic, we took sandwiches, mini sausages with the team shirts on picks
and cheese and pineapple with football picks (again just printed off the computer)
We kept it pretty much low key, it was a really hot day and the kids were happiest playing in the water, the only thing I organised was a football pinata. I like the concept of pinata's, I don't like the idea of letting kids loose with a big stick and encouraging them to hit things. So I made a football pinata instead, I did this last year and it went down well. We started off with each kid having a couple of kicks, kicking to the next child, so that the little ones got a go too, then we let them loose with it.
There were a few fouls and it ended up with Seiyu with his foot stuck in the ball, very amusing!
Then the kids scrabbled to get the goodies, bubbles, sweeties, balls and pencils.
To round off we, we finished with a football cake* of course. It was a plain sponge with green butter icing and green shredded coconut for grass, luckily he was 4 which meant each of the goal posts were candles and the players...well I looked everywhere to find players, even considered buying a game off e-bay until I saw the shipping would be 70 pound. Then I remembered I had these little wooden pieces, which I had bought for a completely different project. So I sat and painted them all, we actually have a full team in both colours, I have made it up into a game but he hasn't opened it yet, I will share later. There are white lines marked on the cake but you can't really see them.
The cake went down well, everyone seemed to have a great time, Ebi-kun especially, thank you to all his friends and family for helping to make his day a special one.

*When I was making the cake, I planned to slice the sponge through the middle and add a jam layer but of of the sponges had stuck to the pan and crumbled somewhat. I said to Ebi-kun, I don't think I can put jam in it, it will have to be a plain cake, his eyes filled up and he said,
"I don't want a plane, I want a football cake" LOL.

I over estimated the amount of shredded coconut so if anyone has any bright ideas on what to do with a load of green coconut please let me know!

A new pet...

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has voted for Di, she is still needing votes, so if you haven't already done so, please pop over and vote for her!

Also, thank you for adding Montessori links, I will have this as an on-going post so please feel free to add more when you find them.

Our neighbour came home with a big box full of beetles the other day and asked if we wanted a couple, hubby of course said yes! Kabutomushi are THE thing to have if you are a kid in japan, it goes hand in hand with summer foods like watermelon and shaved ice! Ebi-kun was a bit squimish at first but that lasted about 5 seconds. I am not such a bug fanatic so as long as it stays in the box it is OK. Usually you buy these beetles for a a few hundred yen, a couple of dollars but some types can go for as much as ¥100,000, about $100. Can you imagine paying that amount of money for a BUG?

We also got our first decent cucumber this season, this looks quite small for an English cucumber but compared to Japanese cucumbers it is quite a whopper.

Yesterday we had Ebi-kun birthday picnic/paddle/party in the park, I haven't got round to loading up the photos yet but the weather was good to us and we had a great time. Will share with you tomorrow - my cousin is also up for a couple of days so I am hoping to get a load of sewing done whilst she distracts the monkey :o)

Pleeeaaase

will you help out my best mate?
She has entered a competition to win a family car, this is because she is pregnant and their current car is not really baby friendly.
Anyway, she is into the 2nd round but needs more votes to get through to the final, it is an amusing video, please watch it, vote for her and pass the link onto all and sundry!

***Plus*** you get the chance to win something yourself...

I will keep you posted on her progress

A Round Of Thanks

We are busy, busy, busy in the jojoebi camp at the moment but I thought I would share with you the cards I made yesterday. I wanted to send a pile of thank you cards but I don't really have the time to sit down and write proper letters to go with them all and just scribbling a quick 'thanks' in a card doesn't seem quite right to me. So, this is what I came up with. It is easy to do and I am sure you could think of other uses (I already played around with Christmas colours but then decided I couldn't be doing with Christmas in this heat!)

You will need:
coloured card
punch
brad

Cut out 5 circles each one a bit smaller than the last, I used my new fancy toy. I mixed up the colours but always had the biggest and smallest the same.

Place the circles on top of each other, like so...

Punch a hole in the top

Push a brad through and open the legs to secure

Done.

get addicted and make more and more and more....

Then write on your message, hiding the secret messages under each circle
(click on the image to read the message to YOU)
and how do you keep the little monkey out of the way whilst you are doing all this?
Give him a pile of circles, a piece of black card and some glue....
I love how this came out, I am tempted to make one myself!

MTD Dips

This weeks theme is dips, which is a favourite in this house.
TOP - veg crackers, carrots from the garden, parma ham, pretzels
MIDDLE - pepper, beets from the garden, cucumber, biscuits
BOTTOM - mayo, sesame dip, mascapone, peanut butter.

We decided that cucumber and peanut butter is BAD but pretzels and peanut butter is GOOD. I think we (yes, I had to do it too) tried all the combinations possible.

There is a MTD swap going on, if you are interested pop over here and sign up.

Camping Trip

Last weekend was a three day holiday so we packed up and went camping again. This time last year we had a camp with several families from the playgroup but this year on two other families could make it. My senpai, Madi found the campsite for us, she had actually been before and managed to get a booking, everywhere else in Japan seemed to be booked up.
We met up at the water park which was great, several small streams for the kids to play in and a big climbing frame too, it was hot so playing in the water was perfect, some parts of the streams were only about an inch deep so even the babies that are not walking yet could sit and splash. The wading streams flowed into the river, which was great for the bigger kids, Ebi-kun caught some tadpoles and a couple had started to grow their legs, it was great for him to see them in real life, he released them afterwards.

After lots of water play we headed up to the campsite, the other two families were staying in a cottage and we were up in the woods. We had a BBQ together which went down well, Mel had made some great burgers, I am not a burger fan but these were gooood. The kids had fun playing in the tent whilst we cooked.

Ebi-kun loved the corn and the adventure of staying up late. When we did get to bed we realised we were camped next to a bear, honestly, I have never heard anyone snore so loud, I hardly got a wink of sleep!
The next day we had breakfast as a group then went down to the caves, it only takes 10 minutes to walk through but it was so nice and cool in there. The other families headed off home but we stayed another night, so we basically did the same thing, went to the water park for a picnic and play then back for a BBQ.
Once we had packed up the next morning we decided to stop of at the Mukai Chiaki Children's Science Museum. Mukai Chiaki was the Japanese woman who went to space on the Discovery mission and the museum is in her hometown. It was quite good, lots of hands on experiments for the kids to use.
This one was a set of scales that you stand on and then you press the button for each planet to see how much you would weigh on that planet.
There was a lot in the museum that Ebi-kun isn't old enough to understand properly yet, I think school aged kids would love it, he did have a great time and it is somewhere we would go back to in a couple of years time maybe.

Dino Dig

Did you miss me? We were camping at the weekend, it was a three day holiday, so we went up to the mountains again, but more about that when I have downloaded the pictures.

We actually did this last week but I forgot to blog about it. I bought this block a while ago, it has dinosaur bones inside and you have to dig them out, Ebi-kun has been working on it for the last few days, he still hasn't found the skull but you can see the rib cage in this picture. It it quite a good activity and I am wondering if I can recreate it using plaster of paris...hmmmmm?

Like Mother Like Son?

When we were back in England we went round to see my old friend Vicky. We go way back and grew up riding ponies together, I had a little naughty Welsh mountain called Toffee Crisp and she had a lovely strawberry roan who was blind in one eye called Sherry. Vicky now has two kids and her little girl is also pony mad so she took Ebi-kun for a ride.
First he had to learn to brush her down...

and get the hang of the basics, toes up, heels down, sit up straight....
and before you know it, he was going over trotting poles!
and he loved it, Poppy wasn't too keen mind you. Thank you Vic, he can't wait to have another go!
Now, I can't actually remember learning to ride, my gran saved Toffee from the dog meat factory when I was about 18months old, so that whole learning to ride thing is filed away with the learning to walk thing. My aunt and I kind of shared Toffee, she had him when I was too young to look after him then she out grew him and I had him back and then years later she had him back and her girls learnt to ride on him. He was a lazy, cheeky very naughty little pony, he would refuse point blank to go over a trotting pole but had no problem clearing a 3 foot fence to get at the grass on the other side. He lived to a ripe old age and is missed by us all.

I went on to compete in Western riding, I did the usual show jumping and dressage too but the western stuff was my thing really. I was the top British youth for a couple of years running and the first youth to qualify to go to the European championships (lack of money stopped me from going!). I also trained with a lot of great trainers both British and American and did a seminar with the Monty Robert the Horse Whisperer - before they wrote a book and made a film about him :o).
Here I am in my awful red pants, on Duncrahill Pippit, who was a beautiful, yet head strong quarter Horse.
ahhh those were the days.....
promise not to bore you with my child hood rambling next post, we are off camping tomorrow so it will be more likely to be about our camp adventures...

Fun For Free

My SD card that I left in the UK has arrived, so I have more pictures to share. Luckily Ebi-kun is the kind of kid who can make up games using whatever is lying around and he usually ropes in anyone sitting around to join in the fun.
Here he is with my mom and Aunt being antimacassar ninjas
or are they angels?
and then when we went to the pub for lunch, he gave a very detailed lesson to Auntie Jan on how to make origami napkins. This day we were planning to meet up with Jenny who reads this blog (Hi Jenny) but unfortunately is was a horrible rainy day so we had to cancel.

another great free activity was to go and visit out old next door neighbours, who have a dairy farm and also had some cute little calves, the one sucking Ebi-kuns fingers was only 2 weeks old and sadly his mommy died during child birth.
You can find more fun for free ideas here.

Swaps

I know! I have been a bit slack with the swaps recently and I really enjoyed the last one.
I have been thinking of doing A Day in the life.... swap but haven't figured out the logistics of it yet but it will more than likely be a virtual swap.
I was thinking it would be great to make up little books or cards of kids from around the world and their daily routine, I was thinking of making a standard template for everyone to use and then we can print them out and they would make some nice sets, what do you think? interested?

Also, there is a new Montessori continent swap group set up, find the info here.

My New Toy

When I was in the UK I got myself one of these Fiskars cutting tools. I talked to the woman who runs the little craft store and she said it was great for cutting out paper and card but I was actually looking for something to cut felt with. Anyway, I got onto google before I parted with my cash and was quite dismayed that there was a lot of negative feedback about it, this made me ummm and ahhhh quite a bit but I finally bit the bullet and ordered one anyway.
The middle section opens and you drop the blade inside then lock it, take off the guard from the bottom and away you go. I don't have the Friskars cutting mat and a lot of the complaints I read said that was the reason their cutter didn't work, well it works fine on my cheap cutting mat. It took me a few tries to get the hang of it and I noticed that the type of paper makes a huge difference, thick paper and card works well and I used it on pages from 'quality' magazines without any trouble at all, it did snag when I tried it on washi and thin magazine paper.

I got three of these templates too, this one , the circles and rectangles, I have now got my eye on this one and this one! It is important to make sure you have the template the right side up. The cutter is a real nice shape, easy to hold and cut with and I imagine it doesn't matter which hand you use it with.

I am not a scrapbooker but I can see scrapbookers would love it, you can also use the tool freehand and for someone like me who hates cutting out, this makes it so much more fun.
We used it the other day to make stickers from this project, well the cut outs were fab but the gelatine glue idea just didn't work for us. In fact Ebi-kun said "Why don't we eat the jelly and stick the pictures on with glue?" Hmmm good point, well made.

Now, what I would REALLY like is something like this for cutting felt....

I just want to point out that this is not a sponsored review but if Fiskars ever wanted me to review any of their other goods I would be happy to do so!

bubble painting - revisted

We have done this before but it was a while ago so I thought it was about time we did it again. It is an easy project to do and the effects are lovely, very delicate considering it is a childs painting.
What you need:
  • large cardboard box
  • bubble blower
  • bubble mix (I used washing-up detergent and water, test that it will make bubbles before adding the colour)
  • food colouring
  • small pots for the colours
  • paper - thicker is better, ours was too thin this time and wrinkled.
Mix up your colours first, I have tried this with acrylic paint and it didn't work at all, water colour paints worked so-so but food colour definitely worked the best for us. I poured some bubble mix into empty yoghurt pots then added the colours, we used red, yellow, black and blue, stir it up well.
Place a piece of paper in the bottom of your box then simply dip your blower into the coloured mix and blow bubbles into the box. Be careful that the bubbles ONLY go in box or you will end up with coloured bubble prints everywhere! I don't advise doing this outside on a windy day.
You will want to experiment with the colours, we found it was best to do the dark colours first.
It is cool that you have no control - or very little on how the picture will turn out
and they all come out differently
I want to try on black paper next time, I imagine it will look like a nebula.

Out Of The Garden MTD

I have fallen off the MTD wagon with all this holidaying but we are climbing back on! This dinner was inspired by veggies from the garden...

well, one tomato, the cucumber and beets were from the garden, not bad but not enough to feed us all. He also has veggie crackers, mascapone and some posh cheesecake for pudding.

No idea what a MTD is? Then pop over here for the FAQ's

Scrabble with a twist

Recently Ebi-kun is really into board games, he was given Shopping List when we were on our travels which is great, a twist on the memory game and I got him Guess Who which he loves too (once he got the hang of it!). Anyway, we needed a somewhere for these new games to live, so I cleared space in the draw where our scrabble and chess set are kept. Of course, he spotted the scrabble and wanted to learn how to play. He can't manage to play properly yet so I made up some alternative games, the first he had to pick a small object from out of a bag and then spell the word out, placing them on the tile holder.
After we had done a few of those he asked to learn to play properly again, he realised that we weren't using the board that is in the box. So, alternative game 2, we placed all the scrabble tiles on the mat and spelled out one word to start off with, then we took turns spelling out new words and adding them to the board.
It was basically spelling practice, the sort of thing we do with the moveable alphabet but it was interesting (for him) because we were using something new.

In the afternoon I made up some side walk paint, I have seen this on a number of blogs, I'm not sure which one I saw it one first but it is easy to do and a great alternative to chalk.
1/2 cup corn starch
1/2 cup water
few drops of food colour

mix together, I ended up adding a bit more corn starch to make it a bit thicker, we did some painting, then I painted out hop-scotch and taught him how to play. After I painted it, I decided it looked wrong so I added a number 10 too, I can't remember if that is right or not! We haven't had much rain since we did this so it hasn't washed off yet, I hope it does or we will have the neighbourhood police after us :o)

The Long and Winding felt road - tutorial

It is Ebi-kuns birthday at the end of the month, so I have been trying to think of a few things to make him. Last Christmas I thought about making a playmat, the sort with roads on for him to play with using his little cars. Then I decided I wanted something a bit more open ended and so I made this felt road, he has requested some more pieces, it was super easy to make so I thought I would share.

You will need
  • a couple of big sheets of felt, I prefer wool blend to the acrylic since that bobbles after a bit of use
  • a ruler
  • something to mark the felt with
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • black and white felt if you want to add a zebra crossing
Decide how wide you want your road to be, mine are 8cm. Once you decide the width you need to stick with it. Cut your felt into 8cm strips, for country style roads make the strips wavy, if you prefer the new city look keep them straight.
Once your strips are cut you can start making the roads. To make a long road, take two piece and place the ends together so that they are touching, they don't need to overlap, using the zig-zag function on the machine (adjust so the stitch is quite long), sew them together.*
I made a couple of long roads and then added side roads, 4 strips of felt per 'section' and then made 3 sections, all different. The beauty of it all is that he can completely change the layout of the town by switching the sections around and because it is just the road, it packs up quite small and fits in with his box of cars.
The wooden pieces shown are from Muji, he often uses his little Tomika cars on her too. I actually made the felt park to use with his animals/dinosaurs but it usually comes out with the roads.

*worried about the stitching holding up? no need, Ebi-kun has been using these for the last 6 months and they are still held together.

Barcelona

My younger brother lives just outside Barcelona, so when I was in the UK we managed to pick up some cheap ticket with Easyjet so we could go and visit for a few days. We had 4 full days there and it was great, it is the first time I have been and I would love to go back with more time to spare. When I go on holiday I never do the organised tours, I like to do it all myself but this time I had to sit back and let Daniel and Yani (his girlfriend) take control. The first day we wandered into town then went for a paddle in the sea followed by a lovely leisurely lunch, a nice relaxing day.
The following two days we took a city tour bus, I am missing most of my photos from the first day but we went to the Gaudi park which is lovely, I am sure we only saw a tiny part of it though then after lunch we took two trams to get to the top of the city, great views and there was a theme park up there so Ebi-kun was happy to try out a couple of rides. The next day we went down Las Rambla which was fantasitc, Ebi-kun absolutely loved the street artists - well, I think with some it was a bit of a love-hate relationship, especially the guy with the severed head, it cost us a small fortune but well worth it. Then we popped into the fairy forest pub for a quick drink, so cute! It is all done out with trees and a wishing well, I loved it in there. After a Tapas lunch we took the bus again which is when Ebi-kun crashed out so we ended up doing a full loop of the town and got off the same place we got on! This was OK with Ebi-kun because he wanted to walk back up the Rambla!
The last day we spent relaxing on the beach, I am not a beach person at all so I was quite happy to dump Ebi-kun on my mom and Daniel. Ebi-kun loves going in the sea but hates water splashed on his face so one minute he would be all smiles and the next close to tears, he was getting better nearer the end of the day.
Our flight was early the next morning, so that was it. I had hoped to pick up a pair of these shoes whilst I was there but the day we were actually in town was a national holiday and of course all the regular shops were closed. I know of a shop here that sells them, but at the double the price, so maybe not.

I have got a couple of projects in the works but I am finding it really hard to get motivated at the moment, I reckon it is this awful weather. Todays mission is to sort out our old clothes...

butterflies

When we came back to Japan we found a chrysalis in the garden, so we put it in Ebi-kun's bug box and yesterday it emerged. We took the box outside and Ebi-kun managed to get the butterfly to walk onto his hand. It sat there for quite some time just dryings it's wings before eventually flying off, Ebi-kun was very impressed. I am chuffed that we found the chrysalis too since we missed the last butterfly after doing all the butterfly study before.
I am not entirely sure what it is though!

and more flashback time...Cumbria to stay with a university mate who has two girls that are 1 and 2, there is a year and a week between them! It is the first time we have been to their house and the setting is beautiful, this is the view from the front of the house and the back has rolling hills full of fluffy sheep.
Ebi-kun got on well with the girls, both of which speak really well, he loved sharing a bath with them (how many lads wouldn't love sharing a bath with two pretty lasses?). We went for a bit of a wander around Keswick and then we attempted to have a picnic but ended up huddled on a bench under a tree in the rain - a fine British picnic! At least we could all laugh about it, so we gave up on that idea and went to and indoor ball pool place instead, of course once we were in there the sun came out - typical. It didn't matter the kids had a great time and so did we, catching up on all the gossip :o)
I love these pictures of Ebi-kun and J sharing kisses, there was quite a bit of this going on!

After 2 nights at Kez's house we headed back. It is a long drive so we stopped off in Bury to meet another uni friend and her new baby I, she is the one I made the baby blanket for. Here is Di practicing to be a mom :o)
All in all it was a great road trip, I got to spend some quality albeit sometimes silly time with Di and it was fantastic to catch up with everyone and all their offspring, can't wait to do it again.

Getting back into the swing of things

I don't know what happened this time but the jet-lag has really wiped me out and last week was basically a wash out, I am finally back into the old routine and I have made a proper effort to get back on track this week, I even did some cleaning yesterday! OK not a lot of cleaning but that is better than nothing, right?
It is still the rainy season here and it is forcast for rain for the rest of the week, blah, Ebi-kun's cough still hasn't cleared up so it meant a trip to the doctors, I don't drive so it actually meant a walk to the doctors, Ebi-kun was quite happy about this because he got to wear his new raincoat which I bought when we were in the UK. (From McKays). He got some new medicine and he didn't seem to cough so much last night so hopefully it is working. He did ask to go to bed at 5pm though which just shows he was under the weather, of course I didn't argue...

flashback to the UK. Leeds was the detination, to stay with one of Di's old school mates, Veena and her family, she has a lovely Yorkshire cottage that they have restored and the bathroom is beautiful, I fell in love with the mermaid on her wall. We had a good gossip and catch up, got to meet her son Z and did quite a bit of playing.
The next morning we set off to Bradford, which is where Di and I met, at university. Our aim was to go to Bombay Stores, which is a massive Indian fabric store, right next to the uni. It is where I used to shop to buy my fabric for the M&Ms costumes. Sadly Bombay Stores has gone up market and there were no bargains to be had but we had a giggle wandering around. Next stop was the Eureka, the national children's museum in Halifax. I thought it was a bit pricey, especially since they charge you for parking too BUT it is a fantastic museum and you easily spend all day in there. I only have a few pictures here, the rest are on the card back at moms and the ones I have don't really do it justice. Ebi-kuns favourite part was the body section which had lots of hand on things showing you how your body works, Di and I even learned a few things :o)
We complete wore Ebi-kun out which was great because we got back in the car for a couple of hours to drive up to Cumbria.

Ohhh Jet-lag you are not my friend

Well I think the the first night back I slept like a log, due to sheer exhaustion since last night the jet-lag kicked in big time and I (we) didn't sleep a wink. We have kept busy today - a slow kind of busy, I did some work, the kind that doesn't need more than two brain cells which is about all I am up to at the moment.
For those who asked, I will be opening the shop again at the weekend, thank you for your patience, I want to make sure my brain is back in proper working order before tackling orders again :o) I also have some new goodies to show you, including some super sock monkeys.

....and back to England, Nottingham to be precise, mom dropped us off at my best mates house, so we stayed there two night before heading off on our road trip. I was hoping to meet up with Emma but it wasn't to be, maybe next time! On the Monday we wandered into town along the canal and headed up to the castle, as far as castles go it is a bit rubbish, more like a posh house but they had a couple of good things going on. We did enjoy the sea themed room and we were the only ones there which meant there was a lot of clowning around - not that an audience would have stopped us :o). The gift shop was actually quite good and I picked up a couple of things for Ebi-kuns birthday. After we wandered into town and to The Alley Cafe, an old haunt of ours and had a lovely lunch and after all that we were shattered so headed back to Di's for a nap. Well Di crashed out, she is a mother-to-be* so that is allowed and Ebi-kun spent ages making houses for footballers out of Di's coasters - cheap entertainment. When Di had come round we got out guitar hero, now I am now a video game kinda gal, but I LOVED this, so much fun, almost too much fun as we had a problem getting Ebi-kun into bed LOL.

The next day we went for a play down at the university, they have a nice park and cafe, so we filled up before setting out on the first leg of our road trip to Leeds.....

We are home

It was a loooong trip back which wasn't helped by being delayed in Copenhagen for a couple of hours! Ebi-kun did sleep most of the way back which meant I didn't get a wink of sleep since he was sprawled on top of me so last night I slept like a log.

Now, a slight hiccup with the photos since I left one of the SD cards back at moms and I had only copied half of the pictures to disk so I might end up showing you pictures out of order - oh well!
Actually, the first week we didn't do that much other than get over jetlag. We went down to the park to play a couple of times and did a bit of shopping, I was in desperate need of some new clothes so I managed to pick up some bits and bobs and also got my hair done. On the Saturday we had an open house at my moms and invited everyone to come and say hello. The idea being that we wouldn't have to spend half the holiday rushing round trying to see everyone, quite a few peeps turned up so it turned out to be a good day, we made blue monster cakes for the party and we caught up on all the gossip, it was great to see everyone again.
